The clay chillum is one of the oldest styles of pipes ever. It is a traditional smoking tool found in many cultures around the world.
Italian Chillums
Why Italian? The Italians, being known for their quality clay and style adapted the Indian chillum, hand-rolling perfect clay tubes with very shiny interiors. Instead of a small pebble, a special long clay stone was invented as a screen and filter.
This stone is also known as a "clay filter". It is always perfectly crafted to sit in the chillum just right, this allows for any ash or burning materials to be filtered before reaching your lips. The stone is equally important in providing the perfect airflow. Stones are made in many different styles, notably hexagonal, round striped, and spiraled (the spiral stone spins the smoke inside the chillum!) Featured with this chillum is a spiral stone.
Easy to clean
The smooth surface on the stones and interior of the chillums allows for them to be cleaned very easily by rubbing them with a piece of cloth or paper towel. Cleaning should be done after each use (while the pipe is still warm) and will only take a few seconds.
